It is the year 2538 in the Democratic Union of Planets. While many promising young men aspire to join the Intergalactic Navy and explore the universe, Bill Stiltson, son of the inventor of the artificially intelligent android, just wants to run a microbrewery on the moon. This is why he illegally buys an abandoned android, whom he dubs Cassandra, and covertly puts her to work behind the bar. However, Bill is thrown into a mystery when his old commander flies his ship into the sun, killing everyone on board, and Bill becomes a part of the investigation. Bill and Cassandra, along with Bill’s adopted android brother, Isaac, get drawn into a Luddite conspiracy.
Bill Stiltson arrives back at his bar after his last adventure, ready to make beer and live a normal life on the moon in the year 2538. Alas, he returns to find his lawn furniture on fire, the work of Jethro Duff, leader of the Moon Nationalist movement called the Lunatics. Bill soon learns that Jethro was following an online conspiracy theory accusing Bill of ruining the moon's economy, destroying lunar culture, and even eating people. Bill sends his intern Jimmy to investigate this conspiracy theory and bring back evidence for a lawsuit, but when Jimmy becomes apprentice to the ringleader conman Cody Duncan, he loses his grip on reality and begins to believe his own con. Now, Bill has to reel him back in.
